The Whiteville
Business Development Center, a 24,000 sq ft business
incubator facility was opened in 1991. The success of that incubator
led to the construction of two additional Business Development Centers:
Winnabow, NC in 1997 (sold in 2005) and Tabor City, NC in 1999. Small
business incubators provide affordable space for new and expanding
businesses, a supportive environment for entrepreneurs, shared services
and business counseling to help fledgling businesses make it through
the critical first years.
TECHNOLOGY
INITIATIVE:
In 1998 they began construction of a backbone
Fiber Optic Network, bringing high-speed communications capability
to businesses in the rural areas. In addition to serving Brunswick
Electric facilities, the fiber network is now available to governments,
educational facilities and other businesses.
BUSINESS
SUPPORT INITIATIVE:
RCSC also has a highly efficient Call
Center Operation that currently serves Brunswick Electric Membership
Corporation and provides calling and distribution fulfillment services
for a local Tourist Authority. These services are available to all
types of businesses, both local and nationwide.
